HWS FAQ

What is the Homeschool World Series (HWS)?

The Homeschool World Series is a baseball tournament where homeschool teams from around the country come together to compete, showcase their talent, and enjoy a week of baseball and camaraderie. For more information check out their website at www.hwsa.net.

When and where is the HWS taking place?

The HWS is scheduled for April 28-May 4, 2024 at the Lake Myrtle Sports Park in Auburndale, Florida. There will be a coaches meeting and team practice in the afternoon of Sunday, April 28. On Monday and Tuesday, we will have 1-2 games to determine placement in the final divisions. Wednesday will either be for making up a rained out game or for taking a team trip to the beach. Thursday, Friday and Saturday will each have 1 game to play.

Who can participate in the HWS?

The Texans will take 15 players to the HWS. The entire Varsity team is expected to attend. If there are spots available, the coaches may ask a JV or Freshman player to attend. All players must be eligible by the HWSA standards.

Where can we stay during the HWS?

We will provide a team house for players and chaperones. However, families have the option to stay independently at various accommodations near the tournament location. The tournament does require that all tournament participants secure lodging within Polk County, FL.

Can you tell us more about the team house?

The team house is a central gathering place for players and chaperones. It offers a comfortable and convenient space for team activities, including meals, meetings, and relaxation. Specific details will be provided closer to the event.

How will transportation to Florida be arranged?

All players must provide their own transportation to and from Auburndale, FL. We will coordinate transportation around Auburndale, using a combination of rented and personal vehicles. Details on transportation and logistics will be communicated to all participants in advance.

What about meals during the tournament?

We will coordinate daily team meals, allowing players and families to bond and enjoy the experience together. Families are asked to contribute by providing frozen casseroles that can be reheated during the week. More information on meal planning will be shared as we approach the event.

How much will the tournament cost?

This tournament will cost between $300-$600 per player. We are actively fundraising to cover some of this cost. A deposit of $100 per player will be due in February, with the balance due in April. This cost will cover our tournament fees, equipment, team lodging, rental vehicles and food for the team house.
